Frequently asked questions

Sizes, materials, ordering, shipping and gifts: the answers, sorted by topic.

Sizes

How do I choose the right size?

The easiest way is to use the calculator in the size guide: it gives you the size based on your child's age or the length of their foot.

Which sizes do you offer?

The soft leather slippers come in eight sizes, from size 16-17 (EU), for 0 to 6 months, to size 31-32, for 5 to 6 years.

The Petit Moccs come in four sizes, from 16-17 (0 to 6 months) to 22-23 (18 to 24 months).

My child is between two sizes: which one should I choose?

Go with the larger one, so the foot has a little room to grow. The foot lengths in the size chart are approximate.

How do I measure my child's foot?

Place the foot flat on a sheet of paper, with the heel against a wall. Mark the tip of the big toe, then measure from the wall to the mark, in centimetres. Measure both feet and keep the longer measurement.

See the illustration in the size guide, or read our article What size for baby?

Do you have a printable template to measure the foot?

Yes. The printable foot template fits on one sheet: put the heel on the line, and read the size where the tips of the toes reach.

Print it at 100%, at "actual size", then check with a real ruler that its test ruler measures exactly 5 cm.

Materials and care

What are the slippers made of?

Top-quality, 100% natural cowhide leather: soft, strong and breathable, it hugs the shape of the foot.

The suede sole is non-slip, and elastic around the ankle keeps the foot well supported.

Do soft leather slippers help with learning to walk?

Before they walk, babies don't need shoes: their feet will develop well if they are left alone, the Canadian Paediatric Society reminds us. The American Academy of Pediatrics adds that babies' feet develop best if they're not confined in shoes, and that first shoes should be soft and non-slip, without arches or added support — extras that may make walking harder.

A soft leather slipper fits with this advice: it protects the foot and grips smooth floors, without stopping it from moving. This is not medical advice: if your child has pain when walking, talk to their doctor.

We go over these sources in our article Barefoot or slippers for learning to walk?

Sources: Canadian Paediatric Society, Footwear for children (2022); American Academy of Pediatrics, Shoes for Active Toddlers.

Do the slippers meet safety standards?

Yes, they meet NF safety standards. Their colours are water-based, free of chemicals.

How do I care for the slippers?
  • A soft cloth for dust, then a damp cloth.
  • Let them air dry, never near a heat source.
  • The suede sole can be gently brushed.
Can the slippers go in the washing machine?

We recommend cleaning them by hand: a soft cloth for dust, then a damp cloth. Let them air dry, never near a heat source. The suede sole can be gently brushed.

What's the difference between the soft leather slippers and the Petit Moccs?

The soft leather slippers feature original illustrations (animals, stars… depending on the design) and come in sizes 16-17 to 31-32.

The Petit Moccs are fringed leather slippers in solid colours, available in sizes 16-17 to 22-23.

Are the slippers handmade?

Yes. They are handmade, with artisan craftsmanship that blends tradition with modern designs.

Everyday use

Are the slippers suitable for daycare?

They are designed for indoor wear: a non-slip suede sole, and elastic around the ankle to keep the foot well supported. Just check your daycare's guidelines.

Our tips are gathered on the page Slippers for daycare (in French).

How can I write my child's name in their slippers?

Inside, near the heel, with a permanent marker, after testing it on a small spot that won't show. Avoid iron-on labels: to be safe, the leather should not be exposed to heat.

You can label the cotton pouch too: it's handy for carrying the slippers in a bag.

Can the slippers be worn outside?

They are designed for indoor wear. For walking outdoors, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises shoes that protect the foot, comfortable shoes with non-skid soles.
